While we love rum and other spirits, it is undeniable that rum distillation has an impact on the environment. These processes contribute directly to pollution since they require massive amounts of water and energy and generate waste that increases during the packaging and distribution of the final product.
Aware of this, the rum industry has advanced in efforts to reduce its footprint on the planet, becoming increasingly sustainable by employing innovative technologies to save energy, creating environmentally friendly infrastructure, reducing water waste, and creating biodegradable packaging, among other solutions that should be applauded.
Therefore, The Ultimate Awards wants to reward those distilleries that have taken a step forward in generating change and positively influencing the rest to make the spirits market greener and, for this purpose, has created The Ultimate Sustainable Rum Distillery 2023 award.
What it’s all about
The Ultimate Sustainable Rum Distillery is a People’s Choice. Candidates are chosen according to their merits, and nominations from rum lovers are also taken into consideration. The nomination process begins July 26 and ends August 9, and to nominate a distillery, you must write to theultimateawards@gmail.com or on the contest’s social media profiles (@ultimateawards for Instagram).
The contest starts on Monday, August 14, and ends on Monday, August 28. The winner will be announced on our social networks on the 30th of the same month, and the distillery that receives the most votes will be the winner.
The award will be presented at the Los Angeles Rum & Tiki Festival, to be held at The Majestic Ballroom on September 8, 2023. The winning distillery will also receive a feature story to be published on www.TheRumLab.com.
Over a year of recognizing the rum industry
The Ultimate Awards were created to celebrate different aspects of the rum industry. So far, awards have been given to the best rum tenders, rum-lovers’ social media groups, rum influencers, and rum ambassadors, among other relevant categories. In addition, this year we organized our first Blind Tasting to award the Best Caribbean Rum 2023.
